What is Bid'ah in Islam ? - Innovation by Mufti Ahmad Yar Khan Naimi Booklet - 32 pages Published : 2001
Introduction: It is indeed very distressing and disappointing to see within our society certain groups of 'scholars' who are continuously slander true and sincere Muslims by labelling them as 'Bid'atis, grave-worshippers, proponents of Shirk' and other derogatory terms that do not befit true Muslims.
These true and sincere Muslims, belonging to the Ahl al Sunnah 'School of Thought' have been practicing certain aspects of the Deen over a long period, many of which could be traced to earlier sources in Islamic history and which were never in dispute. Today, the term 'bid'ah' has been attached to these very actions. The frequency with which this term has been used and is used creates uncertainty in the minds of individuals who are not informed of the reality. There exists, therefore, a dire need to explain in simple terms what bid'ah' means and what acts constitute 'bid'ah and what acts do not. This book, the origin of which was in urdu, and written by a great Islamic scholar or Aalim, Hakeem al Ummat, Mufti Ahmad Yaar Khan Na'imi Ashrafi 'alayhir rahmah, purports to explain in great detail the concept of bid'ah and thus clear the minds of Muslims.

What is Bid'at ? - AN EXPLANATION OF CORRECT AND INCORRECT INNOVATION IN ISLAM Booklet - 32 pages by Mufti Ahmad Yar Khan Naimi
Published : 1995
The problem of 'Innovation' in Islam may seem an obscure subject, but in fact it lies at the centre of Islamic politics today. The wahhabis and fundamentalists have been trying for many years to put themselves in power over the Muslims, but they could only do this by getting rid of the Islam that went before. This was the 'true Islam', and the 'true Religion' ; traditional Sunni Islam of Ahl al-Sunnat wal Jama’at. These fundamentalists tried to sweep this away by claiming that the real Sunni Islam was, in fact, some kind of 'novelty', wrongly invented in the time since after the Beloved Muhammad Prophet Salla Allahu 'alayhi wa Sallam, and so Sunni Islam should be swept away and replaced by their radical neo conservative ideas.
This book by Mufti Ahmad Yar Khan May Allah be pleased with him totally defeats these plots! He explains the whole theory of novelty in Islam, giving a detailed analysis based on Qur'an, Hadith, Islamic Law and History. He shows the beauty of traditional Sunni Islam, and the complete freedom of the Muslim, for in Sunni Islam anything is allowed unless forbidden by Law!
Those Muslims who have doubts about Milad an Nabi (Mawlid), and many other things the Wahhabis and Fundamentalists attack, should look no further than this excellent book. Published 1995 : Raza Academy (UK) OUT OF PRINT INCLUSIVE OF UK DELIVERY |

Sunna Notes : Volume 2 - Studies in Hadith & Doctrine
Paperback - 274 pages : The Excellent Innovation in the Qur’an & Hadith
Sunna Notes Studies in Hadith and Doctrine Volume 2: The Excellent Innovation in the Qur’an & Hadith By Shaykh Gibril Fouad Haddad
With Ibn Rajab al-Hanbali’s The Sunna of the Caliphs Nowhere in the field of Islamic jurisprudence is a blatant tampering with the truth felt more than in the redefinition of "Sunna" and "bid'a". The understanding of the pious Salaf such as Imam al-Shafi'i May Allah be pleased with him for these terms is arrogantly cast aside. Their crystal-clear distinction: "Bid'a is of two kinds: praiseworthy innovation and blameworthy innovation" is being abandoned, while in their place. later, controversial figures are invoked as "more representative of the Salaf". Newfangled theories worm their way into the discourse on right and wrong and -even worse- entire generations of Muslims have been weaned on these perversions of the truth and go into the world parroting the terms "Sunna" and "bid'a" without ever understanding them. Choice victims for this campaign of disinformation in our time are English-speaking Muslims, especially new Muslims. They learn a few expressions then, coiffed with their new hat of condemnatory phrases, go out and blast away at other Muslims.
The purpose of this book is to do away once and for all with these perilous misconceptions and to present over 160 proofs for the Sunni understanding of Sunna and bid'a as it was -and continues to be- set forth in classical, moderate, mainstream Islam according to the Sunni Salaf and Khalaf including the Four Schools of Fiqh.

Concept of Bid'a in the Islamic Shari'a : by Nu Ha Mim Keller Paperback Booklet - 10 pages
From the Book: There are few topics that generate as much controversy today in Islam as what is sunnah and what is bid'a or reprehensible innovation, perhaps because of the times Muslims live in today and the challenges they face. Without a doubt, one of the greatest events in impact upon Muslims in the last thousand years is the end of the Islamic caliphate at the first of this century. Beware of matters newly begun, for every matter newly begun is innovation, every innovation is misguidance, and every misguidance is in hell. The first point is that scholars say that the above hadith does not refer to all new things without restriction, but only to those which nothing in Sacred Law attests to the validity of. The use of the word every in the hadith does not indicate an absolute generalization, for there are many examples of similar generalizations in the Qur'an and sunnah that are not applicable without restriction, but rather are qualified by restrictions found in other primary textual evidence. The second point is that the sunnah and way of the Beloved Prophet (May Allah bless him and give him peace) was to accept new acts initiated in Islam that were of the good and did not conflict with established principles of Sacred Law, and to reject things that were otherwise. And our third and last point is that new matters in Islam may not be rejected merely because they did not exist in the first century, but must be evaluated and judged according to the comprehensive methodology of Sacred Law, by virtue of which it is and remains the final and universal moral code for all peoples until the end of time.

The Concept of Bidah Booklet - 15 pages
by Manazir al-Islam Professor Shaykh Saeed Ahmed Asad Sahib Rendered into English by Mawlana Sajid Younus Today some people openly criticise many of the actions of the Ahl al-Sunnah w'al Jama'at as Bidah (innovation). Whenever a gathering is organised on the joyous occassion of the Prophets' Birth - a fatwa of bidah is immediately issued.
Even before the Essale-Thawaab of the deceased has been arranged, or where-ever Durood is recited before or after the adhaan more fatawa's of bidah are heard. It is within this enviroment that it is deemed appropriate to present the true context and concept of bidah.
