In Defense of The Sunnah                      by Dr Ibrahim Hakim al-Shaghour

Hardback - 345 pages                An Analysis of the Theory and Practices of Tasawwuf

Written with the permission of Shaykh Noorrudeen Durkee

Synopsis: The purpose of this book is to educate the reader about some of the beliefs of Sufis and their practices, and to demonstrate how they are in full accordance with the Shari’a.

Tasawwuf, from the very beginning, has always been integral to the Deen, functioning as the realisation and implementation of the pillar of Ihsan in the being of the Muslim.

Tasawwuf is neither a madhhab, nor a sect, nor an ideology, nor a cult, nor a foreign import, nor an heretical invention. It is a science concerning the reality of Allah, His Messenger, May Allah bless him and grant him peace, and the self, transmitted faithfully and without interruption from the Prophet himself, upon him be peace. It is the belief of the writer that the current corruption of the Ummah and its degradation is a direct result of – among other things – the crumbling away of the pivotal pillar of Ihsan as realised through the practice of Tasawwuf and its principles. In the words of one Muslim leader, Syed Zayn al-Abedin: “Many calamities have befallen the Ummah during the last 200 years, but one of the worst has been the rejection of Tasawwuf. We find ourselves without coherent leadership and following self-proclaimed scholars who teach a dry, literalist and legalistic religion cut off from its traditional and spiritual heritage. In some cases, this develops into a harsh and uncompromising political ideology, with violent results. While we understand the sources of this ideology, we cannot condone its methods or attitude. Islamic civilisation, which was remarkably stable and united for over 1200 years, is now in a crisis of disunity.”

This volume contains many answers, rebuttals, and explanations carefully researched and presented from the Qur’an, authentic hadith, and the wisdom of many Islamic scholars. It is a textbook for anyone who is seeking the heart of Islam which has been hidden far too long from the general understanding of the people.

Extract from the Forward:
''This book is what you need when people who seem to know more than you, start asking you questions that you can't answer about certain aspects of
aqidah and other subjects, and you find that in speaking with such people you 'wind-up' talking more about Ibn Taymiyyah and his followers than about Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala and His Prophet, Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa Sallam. You find that their questions are accompanied by the heavy and frequent use of such phrases as ''bid'a'', ''makruh'' ''da'if'', ''haram,'' etc , and your questioners are insistent that you must accept what they mistakenly call: ''al-Manhaj as-Salaf'' lest you find yourself (according to them) outside of Islam and consigned (by them) to the Fire.

In their ignorance they claim to want to ''purify'' our deen by making unlawful what is lawful, prohibiting supererogatory acts of worship such as Mawlid, nisfu-l-Shaban, hadrah and group dhikr, all the while rejecting reverence and love of the Beloved Prophet, Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa Sallam, and the Awliya' Radi Allahu ta'ala anhum, burning books of Darood and awrad and calling their fellow muslims apostates, disbelievers, and idolaters, shedding their blood, confiscating their wealth and sowing discord and enmity from one end of the earth to the other. This book, ''In Defence of the Sunnah'' firmly rooted in Qur'an and Sunnah and the understandings of traditional Muslim scholars, speaks to and refutes a number of common arguments of the Wahhabi/Salafi (incl. Deobandi/Tablighi Jama'at) sects. I heartily recommend it to the sincere seeker and compliment my student, Sidi Ibrahim Muhammad Hakim al-Shaghour, for having written such a valuable and useful work. May Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala, bless him and his family and reward him for his defense of the Sunnah of our Beloved Prophet Muhammad, May Allah Almighty shower His Mercy and Blessings upon him.'' ---Shaykh Noorruddeen

Message of the Hadith                                                by Allama Arshadul Qadri

Paperback - 166 pages

Translated into English by Dr Ghulam Zarquani

Introduction:
There is no doubt that the first base of Islamic theology is the Noble Qur'an, as it is the Book of Allah the Almighty. According to the Qur'an, following the instructions of the Prophet, May Allah bless him and grant him peace, is mandatory for Muslims as without it, explanation of Divine rules and the exact meaning of the Qur'an are not possible. Therefore, AHadith has become one of the bases of Islamic theology, as it is the only source to know the orders of the Prophet, May Allah Bless him and grant him peace, his work, as well as understand the explanation of the Qur'an.

The Complete Forty Hadith by Imam an-Nawawi

A5 Paperback - 180 pages                                                        REVISED - 3rd Edition

Translated into English by Abdassamad Clarke

Imam an-Nawawi, May Allah be pleased with him, compiled his collection of forty hadith with the minimum of fiqh and commentary necessary so that they would not be misunderstood by people. Ibn 'Unaynah said, 'Ahadith are misleading except to those who have fiqh'. This collection of ahadith contains essentially useful knowledge. Ibn Wahb said, “Every man of hadith who has no Imam in fiqh is astray. If Allah had not rescued us by Malik and al-Layth we would have gone astray.”

It is clear from reading the hadith literature that the Companions, who were pre-eminently men of fiqh, received their Islam by means of what we would call ‘taqlid’ which continued to be the means of Islam’s transmission from one generation to the next. Taqlid is that people see with the eyes of the heart something so overwhelmingly clear that they imitate it, whether consciously or unconsciously. While this is not a decision to abandon the intellect, this word is usually translated pejoratively as ‘blind imitation’. Many modern Muslims imagine that we have a wisdom superior to that because of living in a ‘more enlightened’ techno-scientific age. We place that concept in inverted commas because our measure of all enlightenment is the noble conduct of the Messenger of Allah, May Allah bless him and grant him peace, and his Companions in Madinah, a measure which shows this age to be one of the most barbaric there has ever been.

About Imam al-Nawawi (d. 676/1277)

Imam Yahya ibn Sharaf al-Nawawi, alayhi ar-Rahman w'al Ridwan, was born in the village of Nawa in Southern Syria, Imam Nawawi spent most of his life in Damascus where he lived in a simple manner, devoted to Allah, engaging single-mindedly in worship, study, writing and teaching various Islamic sciences. .

Although best known for his works in hadith, Yahya ibn Sharaf al-Nawawi was also the Imam of the later Shafi'i school of Jurisprudence, and widely acknowledged as the intellectual heir to Imam Shafi'i, May Allah be pleased with him. He was a renowned scholar and jurist who dedicated his life to the pursuit of Islamic learning.

Imam Nawawi died at the young age of 44 years, leaving behind him numerous great works.

Abdassamad Clarke

From Ulster and was formally educated at Edinburgh University in Mathematics and Physics, and in Cairo in Arabic and tajwid and other Islamic sciences. He accepted Islam at the hands of Shaykh Dr. Abdalqadir as-Sufi in 1973. In the 80s he was secretary to the imam of the Dublin Mosque, and in the early 90s Imam Khatib of the Norwich Mosque, where he is currently an Imam and teacher.

The Binding Proof of The Sunna - Sunna Notes 3

Paperback - 226 pages                      Compiled and Translated by Dr Gibril Fouad al-Haddad

Studies In Hadith & Doctrine

Adapted from 'Abd al-Ghani 'Abd al-Khaliq's Hujjiyyat al-Sunna

The book also contains the translation of Imam Ibn Hajar al-'Asqalani's, Radi Allahu ta'ala anhu, explanation of the Hadith on Islam, Iman and Ihsan also known as Gibril's hadith from the Fath al Bari.

Extract from the Forward:

'The Sunna is the first subsidiary source (masdar far'i) after the Qur'an among the sources of Islamic law. We describe it as a subsidiary source because it is the Qur'an that actually indicated that it is a source, and the basis of everything is the Qur'an. The Qur'an commanded us to follow the Messenger of Allah, May Allah bless him and grant him peace,: therefore we follow the Messenger of Allah.' ---Shaykh Muhammad Sa'id Ibn Mulla Ramadan al-Buti

"The meaning of the expression Binding Proof of the Sunnah is that the Sunna points to the judgment of Allah Most High, either as definitive knowledge ('ilm) or as as probable knowledge (zann), bringing it out and disclosing it for us. We understand the Divine rulings by means of the Sunna and it becomes binding upon us to put its content into practice, So the real meaning of the Sunna as binding proof is exposition and proof-inference necessitating obligatory practice of their results because the latter is the Divine decision." ----Dr. 'Abd al-Ghani B, 'Abd al-Khaliq

Habib ‘Umar bin Hafiz :
Habib umar bin hafiz is a descendant (Sayyad) of the Beloved Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, through his grandson Imam Hussain, may Allah be pleased with him. He was born in Tarim, Hadramaut in Yemen, and raised in a household that possessed a tradition and lineage of Islamic scholarship and righteousness, his father being the famous martyr, scholar, and caller to Islam, Al-Habib Muhammad bin Salim.

Having memorised the Qurían at a very early age, Habib Umar also memorized the core texts in fiqh, hadith, Arabic Language, and other religious sciences. He studied many sciences including spirituality from his father Al-Habib Muhammad bin Salim, acquiring from him a deep love and concern for daëwah and religious counsel in the way of Allah. He attended numerous circles of knowledge held by traditional scholars, such as Muhammad bin Alawi bin Shihab and al-Shaikh Fadl Baa Fadl. Later, he enrolled at the Ribat of al-Baydaí, where he began to study the traditional sciences under the expert tutelage of Al-Habib Muhammad bin Abd-Allah al-Haddar, as well as under the Shafi'i jurist and scholar Al-Habib Zain bin Sumait. Habib Umar was given permission to teach soon after.

Afterwards, he began to visit many neighbouring towns and communities across Yemen and studied with the Mufti of Tai'iz, al-Habib Ibrahim bin Aqil bin Yahya, who began to show him much love and attention. He received similar treatment from his Shaikh al-Habib Muhammad al-Haddar, who gave him his daughter's hand in marriage after being impressed by his uprightness and intelligence. Al-Habib Umar then traveled to the Hijaz and studied several books with prominent scholars, including Al-Habib Abdul Qadir bin Ahmad al-Saqqaf, Al-Habib Ahmed Mashur al-Haddad, and Al-Habib Attas al-Habashi.
