Islamic Manners of Eating : The Chapter of Faizan-e-Sunnat (Adaab-e-Taam)
Hardback - 520 pages by Muhammad Ilyas Attar Qadiri Razavi

Rendered into English by: Majlis-e-Tarajim.
Written by: Shaykh-e-Tariqat, Ameer-e-Ahl as-Sunnat Hadrat Allama Abu Bilal Muhammad Ilyas Attar Qadiri Razavi [Founder of Dawat-e-Islami]
Book Extract: What Intentions should one render for the consumption of food? It is sunnah [Tradition of the Beloved Prophet Peace & Blessings upon him] to eat only when one is hungry. One should have the intention that 'I am eating so that I may attain strength to worship [Ibadah] Allah Subhanahu wa ta'ala. One should not eat just to relish the taste. Sayyiduna Ibrahim bin shayban rahmatullahi 'alayh states, "I have not eaten anything merely for the satisfaction of my carnal desires [Nafs], for eighty years." (Ihya-ul-ulum, vol:2, pg:5.) One should also intend to eat less than the appetite, as the intention for eating to gain strength and to worship Allah Subhanahu wa ta'ala. can only be true if one lives up to the former intention (that is to eat less). Gluttony is only a hindrance in worship. Futhermore, eating less food is conducive to good health, and such a person has very little need to visit the doctor. (subhanallah) How much food should be consumed? The Compassionate and Immaculate Prophet Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa Sallam has stated that, "A person does not fill a container worse than his stomach. Merely a few morsels are sufficient for a person to maintain a straight back. If he cannot adhere to this, then one third (1/3) of the stomach should be for food, one third for water and one third for air" (sunan ibn majah, vol:4, pg:48, Hadith: 3349.) Content:
