DIWAN OF HASSAN IBN THABIT - 2 Volumes : A New Edition Hardback : 2 Volumes - 1000+ pages This is a New Edition. Based on MSS. not previously used as well as on other sources, with Notes and Comments by Walid N. Arafat. B.A. Ph.D.
Volume I - Introduction, Arabic Text, Variants (takhrij) and Citations Volume II - The Scholia from the MSS. and other sources ; togther with the editors notes and comments, accompanied by footnotes. Hassan ibn Thabit, May Allah be pleased with him, lived in Yathrib, then later Madinah, and was of mature age when the Prophet Muhammad, Peace and Blessings of Allah upon him, leaving Makkah behind him, settled there. He was already an established poet and had found favour as a composer of eulogies on visits to the court of the Arab Princes of the Ghassanid dynasty. Although not an immediate convert, Hassan soon accepted Islam and became, if hardly Poet Laureate, the most conspicuous of those who, in spite of Muhammad's disapproval of poets in general, were able to use their talent for verse to serve the new religion and praise its Prophet, Peace and Blessings of Allah upon him. Hassan ibn Thabit, May Allah be pleased with him, lived on to a great age after Prophet Muhammad's, Peace and Blessings of Allah upon him, passing away, perhaps largely in retirement; his own death most probably occurred in the year 659 of the Common Era. As is usual with the literature of the earliest period of Islam, the poems attributed to Hassan include ones which cannot be his. The Diwan seems to contain a substantial core of authentic work, but a proportion of it has been fathered on Hassan posthumously for various reasons, for instance, to serve the interest of the Madinan group to which he had belonged, the Ansar. Professor Walid N. Arafat, who has long studied the problems of the Diwan, has provided an edition of the text which incorporates much new evidence, notably that of three important MSS in Istanbul, and he has supplied a thorough commentary. Two vols, 568pp and 448pp. 2 Volumes. Introduction in English, the remaining text is in ARABIC.

Kashful Astari - hashiya, 'Sharh Ma'ani al-Athar' Hardback - 2 Volumes in Arabic by Imam Abu Ja`far al-Tahawi
Hashiya by : Mawlana Amjad Ali A'zami, Rahimullah
Sharh Ma'ani al-Athar is the famous Hanafi fiqh manual by Imam at-Tahawi, may Allah be pleased with him. In this classical work the Imam Tahawi rigorously studies all of the texts relating to each branch of fiqh and the positions of the Imams of the maddhabs with respect to those rulings. Imam Abu Ja`far al-Tahawi (239-321) can be said to represent the creed of both Ash`aris and Maturidis, especially the latter, as he was also following the Hanafi madhhab. We have therefore chosen to include the entire translated text of his Statement of Islamic Doctrine commonly known as the `aqida tahawiyya. Mawlana Amjad Ali Azami,Rahmatullahi 'alayhi, was bestowed with many different sciences and branches of knowledge, but he had an intrinsic inclination towards the knowledge, which is regarded as sacred, i.e Qur'an and Hadith. He had a great inclination towards Tafsir, Hadith & Fiqh, & held detailed, but complex Islamic rulings of many different topics, of Fiqh on the tip of his tongue. In recognition of this multi dimensional knowledge, Shaykh Imam Ahmed Rida, May Allah be pleased with him, the Great Reviver of Islam, conferred the title “Sadr al-Shari’ah” to him. Kashful Astari : Sadr al-Shari’ah started writing marginal notes (annotations or hawashi) on the voluminous book of Imam Abu Ja’far Tahawi “Sharh Ma’an al-‘athar”, and in the short period of seven months, he completed a comprehensive annotation. The special feature and note of surprise is that the annotation was hand-written with a fine-pointed pen, and that too with one pen; it comprised 450 pages, each page consisting of 35-36 lines! Mawlana Amjad Ali also wrote the universally acclaimed Bahaar-e-Shari'ah. Imam Abu Ja`far Ahmad ibn Muhammad al-Azdi, known as Imam Tahawiafter his birthplace in Egypt, is among the most outstanding authorities of the Islamic world on hadith and jurisprudence (fiqh). He lived at a time when both the direct and indirect disciples of the Four Imams of law were teaching and practicing. This period was the greatest age of Hadith and fiqh studies, and Imam Tahawi studied with all the living authorities of the day. Al-Badr al-`Ayni said that when Ahmad died, Tahawi was 12; when Bukhari died, he was 27; when Muslim died, he was 32; when Ibn Majah died, he was 44; when Abu Dawud died, he was 46; when Tirmidhi died, he was fifty; when Nisa'i died, he was 74. Kawthari relates this and adds the consensus of scholars that Tahawi allied in himself completion in the two knowledges of hadith and fiqh, a consensus that included, among others, al-`Ayni and al-Dhahabi, with Ibn Taymiyya singling himself out in his opinion that Tahawi was not very knowledgeable in hadith. This is flatly contradicted by Ibn Kathir who says in his notice on Tahawi in al-Bidaya wa al-nihaya: "He is one of the trustworthy narrators of established reliability, and one of the massive memorizers of hadith." Kawthari calls Ibn Taymiyya's verdict "another one of his random speculations" and states: "No-one disregards Tahawi's knowledge of the defective hadith except someone whose own defects have no remedy, and may Allah protect us from such." 2 Volumes - [Low Stock]
